(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) -The competition season for LRHS StellarXplorers has come to an end. Starting from their first practice round in October until the last competition round in February, it has been a long journey for the two LRHS StellarXplorers teams. The StellarXplorers Competition consisted of three competitions. Each focused around planning satellite orbits and choosing satellite and rocket parts.

The military has also become reliant on satellites and high-altitude planes, rockets, surveillance technologies. President Donald Trump has decided the United States now requires a separate branch of the military for space operations.

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Thursday, Feb. 6 and Friday, Feb. 7 the final competition for LRHS StellarXplorers will start; it will be the last of three national competitions. LRHS has competed in two of the three national competitions. Their scores from each of the three competitions will be average out and the best teams will move onto the next level of the competition. This will be calculated later this month after the third, and final, competition.

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS spirit wear will be sold in the cafeteria during all lunches starting Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 3-4 and again on Dec. 10-11. Sweatshirts and hoodies are available in green grey and black; short sleeve t-shirts are available in grey, black and white; and long sleeve t-shirts in grey and white. The sweatshirts and hoodies will be $30, tee shirts $20, long sleeves $20, and short sleeves $10.

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Thursday, Oct. 31 the window for the first Qualifying StellarXplorers competition opened. The event was held on Oct. 31 – Nov. 1 at the LRHS library. The competition consists of an academic quiz as well as a simulation software called STK. The STK has the teams simulate orbit paths around the earth so they can compete to make the best orbit paths possible for the satellites. (LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Sept. 1, 2019 Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas. Over 78,000 homes were destroyed and lives were completely devastated. Since then LRHS assistant principal Jillian Bieber coordinated efforts to raise money for the victims.

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS spirit Wear will now be sold in the school cafeteria on Sept. 24 and 25 for October’s Spirit Week and at the varsity home football games on Oct. 4, 11, and 18. There are a wide variety of items available such as LRHS tee shirts, long sleeve shirts, hoodie sweatshirts in grey, green, white and black, and LRHS car magnets.

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – As new students start to settle into their new schedules, it can be easy to forget their teachers have interesting backgrounds. LRHS world history teacher William Wallin brings an unusual perspective to his class with his background in international relations. Wallin has been a teacher at LRHS for eight years, and teaches regular, honors, and AP World History.

Since that famous mission, hundreds of thousands of people have been inspired to go into Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (S.T.E.M.) related careers, including many LRHS teachers.
